New York Jets Face Longest Active NFL Playoff Drought Since 2010 Season

The New York Jets have not qualified for the NFL playoffs since the 2010 season, when they advanced to the AFC Championship Game before losing to the Pittsburgh Steelers.[1][2]

Geno Smith was selected by the Jets in the second round (No. 39 overall) of the 2013 NFL Draft out of West Virginia.[3] He started 15 games as a rookie, completing 56.4% of his passes for 2,891 yards, 12 touchdowns and a league-leading 21 interceptions.[3][4]

In 2014, Smith's touchdown-to-interception ratio evened out at 13 each, with 3,002 passing yards over 13 starts.[3]

Smith's time with the Jets was interrupted in 2015 when he suffered a broken jaw in a locker room altercation with teammate IK Enemkpali, sidelining him for 10 weeks and nine games.[3][5]

Following uneven performance and loss of the starting job, the Jets released Smith before the 2017 season.[3]

Smith revived his career with the Seattle Seahawks, earning consecutive Pro Bowl selections in 2022 and 2023.[3][6] The Jets finished 7-10 in the 2023 season.[1]

Aaron Glenn, a former NFL defensive back, serves as defensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions.[7]
